New Orleans...but we all have Afro-American-French/Creole heritage here also. Also the cities population up until Katrina was around 70% if Im not mistaken.

Atlanta is a modern addition to what is considered the holy trinity of Black cultural history: New Orleans, Chicago, NYC - in that chronological order. With Jazz and Blues -- and therefore all modern American music, the early-mid twenties migration up the Mississippi and then eastward from Chicago. Each one of these cities had a Black renaissance (most famous of all being Harlem, though many of those artists migrated to NYC from Chicago, ect). Atlanta really gets the credit it's due because it's the Nashville of Hip-Hop (ex: Outkast). You could slide Memphis in there, but I think the four aforementioned cities have led the pack historically. I'm white, but being a musician, I think I can speak for at least the incredible musical triumphs that have occurred in these cities.

I've never heard this, but there's no way you can talk about the most significant large cities for Black culture and exclude Philly, Detroit, and DC.

I would say yesterday it was Detroit and today it is Atlanta.

Other cities can fit the bill as well.........but these 2 stand out the most to me.
