Why not? Augusta was ranked 7th in the last edition(first quarter 2010) and ranked 11th in this edition(second quarter)...

I am so shocked that Augusta was chosen. But, I kind of figured that would happen considering the OP. This is a chance to showcase Augusta to the world. Not a bad thing. But to pick the top 5 cities and you have DC, DFW, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Omaha, Des Moines, Oklahoma City, Buffalo, Rochester, and Honolulu it's crazy to put Augusta over top. Especially considering that as big as Houston and DFW are, they're growing faster percentage wise over Augusta. That is incredible growth.

I picked Augusta because the future is bright. Do you really think Brookings recently ranked Augusta 7th and 11th for no reason?

Plant Vogtle is one development in metro Augusta. The first nuclear reactors in 30 years will provide 1,000 jobs per year for the next 10 years.. When the two nuclear reactors are complete(2016 & 2017) there will be 800 permanent jobs... The total cost is $14.5 billion(the most expensive nuclear reactors ever built in the united states)..

The Medical District added another new bio-tech company 2 months ago.

So why are you putting Augusta in the top five?

Plus, it's mostly public dollars that's being circulated in Augusta with Savannah River Site, Fort Gordon, and the Medical College of Georgia. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of private dollars being invested, especially compared to many of the other cities on the list. In the long run, it's private investment that helps to substantially grow a city's economy. Granted, that's DC's problem as well, but the federal government isn't going anywhere. Again, no way Augusta ranks ahead of Houston and Washington, DC.

There's plenty of private dollars being spent...

Why must you keep embarrassing Augusta like this. Comparing it to cities 10x's its size.

The original question.....

''When it comes to new jobs, industry, technology, and companies coming to the city in the future''....

What does a city being 10x's another city size have to do with new jobs, industry, technology, and companies coming to the city..

The bigger the city, the better infrastructure will be in place. Such as access to highways, public transportation for key events, international airports and other ports, physical size ofmarket and access to huge customer base. etc. That is not to say that small cities can't compete or that small cities don't hav advantages. But the above reasons I mentioned are reasons why a city 10X the size of Augusta have a better chance or growth than Augusta.

I can't believe you haven't realized the huge behemoth of Augusta. It's the fastest rising city in the Southeast and will easily overtake Atlanta. Just watch.
