Cleveland or Minneapolis?

Hi! I'm finishing nursing school next May, and Hubby and I are looking for a new place to live. I have family in Cleveland, he has family in Minneapolis. We're both native New Englanders, and we're used to long, cold winters.

We're in interracial couple, and we want to avoid areas where that wil be a problem. We're also looking for a lot of available jobs, good public schools, low to moderate housing costs, and reliable public transportation. We'd also like some kind of culture beyond sports.

Cleveland. It is more more "eastern" in sentiment, the winters and falls are comparable, it's cheap, and, perhaps most especially, it's FAR MORE diverse.

! would go with Minneapolis. The nurses in the twin cities metro area are some of the highest paid in the nation. My sister lives in Cleveland and says their are very little jobs and quite economically depressed. Of course the winters can be snowy like ours but I dont think they are as cold as Minnesota.

On the topic of the weather:

Cleveland does get more snow but not by a lot. The bad snowbelt is mostly in the far East and NE suburbs of Cleveland. The city, and anything south or west of the city, doesnt get it that bad. Minneapolis gets about 40 inches and Cleveland gets 55 annually. For example, Buffalo gets about 90 inches annually.

There is a large difference in temperature though. In the winter, Cleveland is on average 15 degrees warmer than Minneapolis. In January, Clevelands average low is 19 and Minneapolis is only 4 degrees. The lowest temperature ever recorded in Cleveland was -20, and in Minneapolis it was -41. Its also very common for Minneapolis to be well below -0 in the winter, Most years Cleveland has no days at all near or below -0 degrees.

Minneapolis would be a better choice than Cleveland. Although housing may be a tad cheaper in Ohio.
