Food Scenes
Which city has the best LOCAL food scene? Which city offers the best selection of foods that that city is known for?

Well overall I really don't think any compare with the pure volume and diversity available in NYC - there are a few that can be equally as good but none with the sheer volume of excellent choices
Chicago, SF, NOLA, Philly, LA, Houston all have notable restaurant scenes but none even close to the scale of NYC even if some have comprable offerings in terms of scene none have the volume
In terms of Local - I would have to say NOLA as it is really the only city in America with an iconic food type not nearly duplicated in any other city

I copped out and voted for all of them, except for Houston and Buffalo. Truthfully, I could have voted for both of those as well, but it would have been a complete cop out. I love all of these cities when it comes to cuisine.
Baltimore: blue crab. I miss them.
NYC: Pizza
Philly: Cheesesteak
Kansas City: best BBQ, fried chicken
Memphis: BBQ
San Fran: Dim Sum
New Orleans: probably the best all round, muffaletta, Po Boy, jambalaya
Chicago: italian beef, hot dogs

I voted Buffalo, because it gets no love here at C-D and it has some really great food! If you have not had Buffalo Wings from Duff's, Beef on Weck, Sponge Candy or Stuffed Banana Peppers then you have not truly lived!

Gyros, hot dogs, italian beefs, pizza, mexican joints, chinese joints, couple of specialty places.
That's all I live by.
Id hate to leave all that one day if I where to ever move.

San Fran has its own twists on mexican and chinese food. It's also probably the heart of "new american cuisine."
