Since NYC is out the picture, places like Trenton, Vineland, etc. Can be attributed to Phily as they are already controversially done so already. With this, Boston's CSA of 7.6million wouldn't that far ahead of Phily, which is already knocking on 6 million. Their GDPs would also even out as well. I know Boston has MIT and Harvard, but UPenn, Temple, and Princeton are nothing to sneeze at.
I don't think any on the list is a central location in terms of the northeast region. Albany,NY would probably be best being the most central location.
A capital is nothing more than a meeting place to carry out the business of government functions. You don't need any other industry at it's side, location wise, to implement it- o/w NYC not Washington DC would have been chosen as the most important site for US capital.
Ideally, DC should have been placed in Kansas so as to be central location for the continental US.
At the time Washington was central to the rest of the country. It was pretty much on the dividing line between the northern and southern states which constituted the Union then, which is why people are having a tough time classifying it as either now. Nobody then probably imagined the extent to which the country would expand across the continent. Remember, at the time Spain and France held most of what would become the continental United States.
And since we've added Alaska and Hawaii, shouldn't a truly centrally-located capital be somewhere in the northwestern part of the continental United States?
Anyway, as to the question of this thread, I'll cast my vote for Boston.
Its hard to take this poll seriously when NYC isn't on the list....
Yup.
