Don't be jealous because Atlanta is so far inland.

The "Bay Area" in America means the San Francisco Bay that includes Oakland, Berkeley, San Jose and even the Napa Valley.

When I hear "The Bay" or "Bay Area" I automatically think of the San Francisco Bay Area.

San Jose is quite a ways from the Bay.

From DT San Jose it's only 10 miles to the southernmost sloughs of the bay and it's definitely a part of the Bay Area.
And depending on where you are in the city you can be no more than 5 miles from the bay.

Boston is on Massachusetts Bay and Massachusetts is known as the Bay State. However San Francisco, Chespeake, and Tampa Bays all have more noteriety. San Francisco Bay is always the first one that comes to mind when I hear Bay Area.

No it is not. San Jose is in the Santa Clara Valley that is the southern border of San Francisco Bay. Downtown San Jose is within 5 miles of the water and surrounding communities in Santa Clara county are right on the bay [Palo Alto, Milpitas, etc].
