As huge as Atlanta's gay scene is it seems it sould have a pretty good techno or electronica scene ( I don't know about drum n bass). They tend to love that type of music. Someone tell me if I'm wrong.
Florida in general has a big dnb scene. I am a dnb head also and having AK1200 being local to FL helps him bring in the newer artists for shows in Orlando and Tampa. Miami has some, Charlotte NC has some decent shows. L.A. actually used to have a bigger scene not sure about now.
AHHHHH i think you guys are missing out on whats happening in the UK!
Drum & Bass is alive and well, but perhaps has taken a different course: Liquid Funk. It's nothing like that garbage that you're saying its turning into, Metro Matt.
Check out some of the stuff on the Hospital Records label:
I'm not forgetting the classics like MC Conrad, LTJ Bukem, etc. but I just want to showcase some of the new stars in the scene.
PLEASE let me know if theres stuff of this caliber in any city in USA/Canada. I'll pack my bags tomorrow.
Sorry if I went overboard, I just want everyone to know what today's DnB, specifically liquid funk is doing! So many people think its a dying genre, or mistake it with Jungle or regular trance music. I love this stuff!
I think the mellow techno-ish dubstep artists like Joy Orbison, Instra:Mental, D-bridge, and especially Scuba are producing much more dynamic music than the drum 'n' bass producers now. Too much d drum and bass producers use that same tempo and same drum pattern. Listen to what Scuba is doing right now and his work sounds more like early LTJ Bukem and Photek from '95 to '96.
Mostly sounds like Neo Soul or Smooth R&B only with sped up rhythms. Kind of the reverse of Screwed music.
