California is not anywhere near bankrupt. That is yet another outrageous exaggeration by the media meant to rile people up.

Bankruptcy implies that California is defaulting on its bond payments and there is no threat to that happening in the least

California Bankrupt? <---- read the full text
Quote:
Is the state of California bankrupt? Well, an increasing number of politicians and economic analysts are answering that question in the affirmative. The truth is that California is a complete and total economic disaster area. The state government of California is projected to have a budget deficit of at least 19 billion dollars this year, and next year the budget gap is projected to grow to 37 billion dollars. To put that in perspective, the entire budget for the government of California is only about $125 billion per year. Already, California's credit rating is the lowest of all 50 states, and there are persistent rumors that it is about to go lower. If California's credit rating is slashed, it will be very expensive for them to borrow the money that they desperately need. Once upon a time, the state of California was the poster child for the American Dream, but now it is on the leading edge of America's rapidly unfolding economic nightmare.
And thats just the beginning of the article.

EDIT: I couldnt resist adding in another quote from the Attorney General

Quote:
California Attorney General Jerry Brown was very open about California's horrific finances when he recently told a group of young Democrats the following....

"California is deeply in debt. You could say that it's bankrupt."

Jean Ross, executive director of the California Budget Project was even more direct when she recently issued the following ominous warning about California's finances....

"We are on the verge of system failure."
Do we need to get more proof? Do you still think I'm exaggerating???

My wife was turned away and can not attend school in San Jose... the state is bankrupt... we are foced to go to school in another state. We are considering Omaha, Virginia Beach... well Hampton specially, and Denver.

Oakland, and California in general is astonishing when it comes to the beauty of the environment...

But... all of that is meaningless if you can't even enjoy it. Unemployment, No funding for public schools, and heavy tax burdens are turning the dreamy state into just a dream.

Why, because you can't admit that your wrong?

Listen I appreciate your tenacity, but its fruitless. The issue of California filing for bankruptcy has long been debunked as nothing more than speculation by bond issuers who hedged bets on their own bonds hoping they would fail so they could make even more money. And some people buy into that hysteria.

Actually let's quote the Law in the State of California:

The California Constitution requires that General Obligation bonds be approved by a majority vote of the public and sets repayment of GO debt before all other obligations of the state except those for K-14 education.

General Obligation (GO) Bonds (http://sam.dgs.ca.gov/TOC/6000/6871.htm - broken link)

Bankruptcy above all else, implies that California is going to miss its bond repayments, and that's never going to happen. As I've stated before in the CaliForum, the state will bleed dry every other program and/or agency EXCEPT education before it misses its bond payments.

You arent going to find any credible sources that in November 2010 talk about California filing for bankruptcy except for disgruntled republicans and ignorant out-of-state media outlets who want to stir the pot.

Furthermore, the need for pension reform is not unique to California. The issue of unemployment is not unique to California and the issue of a need for austerity is not unique to California. Its just that California is dealing with these issues far worse than other states.

Now, ingest all of this and have a nice day.

Okay so let us ignore what the Attorney General says...

Lets ignore what the California Executive Budget Director says....

Let's throw out the remarks of all the top city officials and what they say about the crisis... because these idiots have no idea what they are talking about when their job is to fix this problem...

Let's ignore the protests of hundreds of thousands of college students statewide because they are being turned away and forced to attend college out of state because of the Billions of dollars in educational budget cuts and universities not even having enough money to support taking in students.... (which is why we are moving out of state btw)

Let's ignore all these high taxes that are being jacked up by 3 to 4 times what other states charge in taxes...

Let's ignore California's record high in foreclosures, up 19% in October...

Let's ignore the fact that million's of Californians are losing their homes every year and are being forced to move to lower cost of living places like Omaha where they are ranked 3rb best in employment nationwide.

Let's just ignore all this blatant in your face information of a state in belly up trouble about to crumble...

Let's ignore the ranking of 49th place out of 51 states when it comes to jobs and unemployment....

Let's ignore all the California government job layoffs and budget cuts with persisting deficits and expected increases in the deficit for years to come.

Lets ignore all of these economic indicators because 18Montclair says California's doing fine and that people are living life in Oakland uninterruptedly. Life is good in Cali... we are so much better off than Orlando or Omaha... because our trees, lakes, and beaches are pretty and people like that above not having a job or a home to live in. They can just go live in the pretty woods and national forests or something beacuse we're fine!

In fact, our economy is booming... Police and firefighters, school teachers, and the lot of other workers and city officials aren't losing their jobs or being layed off.

California's economic outlook for 2011 and 2012 is far from dismal backed by the word of economists across the nation.

Everyone and their momma wants to go to school in Cali because their doors are wide open. You can register in the spring and the fall because their is just so much room for more students because the Billions of dollars in budget cuts to public schools just proofed that our colleges and universities didn't need the money anyway...

Everyone is livin a good life here... no problems whatsoever because 18Montclair (the California Cheerleader) says that its all hype coming from bond holders and Wall street exects.

You keep regurgitating the same things over and over and all I need to do is continue repeating what I last said to you:

The need for pension reform is not unique to California. The issue of unemployment is not unique to California and the issue of a need for austerity is not unique to California. Its just that California is dealing with these issues far worse than other states.

Now, you have spoken your peace. Is there anything else?

No I think my point with factual data has proven your rebuttal to be nothing more than you being a cheerleader and wanting people to be happy about your state even if its being flushed down the toilet. We can end this conversation unless you want to keep going, I can keep digging up data if it pleases you.
