What are the most culturally southern locations outside the South that you have experienced?

As a southerner, I'm well aware that our region is characterized to an extreme variant of our overall culture when portrayed in the media. In fact, there are many elements or types of southern culture, but there is an overall, overriding southern culture that is noticeable in our regional foods, accent, as well as our form of worship.

So, what's the most culturally southern place outside of the south that you have experienced?

Not really anywhere because the South is the South. But if I had to pick a place, the Inland Empire in California. Lots of pickup trucks, ATVs, fishing, camping, NASCAR, and rebel flags.

I agree.

The Inland Empire has a lot of that. However, it is most noticeable in the High Desert. Lots of "desert rats" that like to drive their 4x4s into the desert. Country music is big in the High Desert, but so it is nationwide. Nascar is also very popular, but so it is nationwide.

That said, I think this is a very stereotypical view of what constitutes southerness and isn't actually southern, in terms of cuisine and tangible traits that are southern for most southerners.

I'd say the black neighborhoods of Northern cities. I'd agree with areas of Southern CA, also some pockets in IL and MO.

Some parts of Southern Missouri I suppose. I've heard Southern Illinois, like Cairo or Vienna, have a fair amount of Southern influences as does Southern Indiana. It seems like the Joaquin Valley of California received a fair amount of "Okies" and Merle Haggard was from the Bakersfield/Oildale area.

Define "southern culture". Then we can get meaningful discourse.
