Yea thats why it sells more then any type of genre right?? Hows your backstreet boys doing?
Ahh, dont take it personally, its just the facts.....
Backstreet Boys? C'mon I need more credit than that, although theyve sold more than any hip hop artist in history, unless you count MJ as hip hop. The latest data I could find, they classify differently, but still, rock is king:
While all genres were down in sales for 08, the rock categories fell the least. Alternative sold 80,919,000 this past year while Metal albums accounted for 50,476,000 sales. Neilsen SoundScan breaks music genres into 12 categories.
The biggest selling genres were:
1. Rock (139,666,000)
2. Alternative (80,919,000)
3. R&B (77,014,000)
4. Metal (50,476,000)
5. Country (47,657,000)
6. Rap (33,410,000)
7. Christian (29,793,000)
8. Latin (25,125,000)
9. Soundtrack (20,847,000)
10. Classical (13,323,000)
11. Jazz (11,791,000)
12. New Age (2,942,000)
The biggest-selling genre of music, according to the most recent statistics from the Recording Industry Association of America, is Rock (31.8%) followed by Rap/Hip Hop (10.7%). Pop music sales are separate from Rock (9.1%). R&B/Urban is separate from Rap/Hip Hop (10.2%). Note that Rock sales are greater than sales of Rap/Hip Hop, Pop, and R&B/Urban combined. The statistics include sales in all formats, including CDs and digital downloads. Rock sales rose from 24.8 % in 2000, while sales of Rap/Hip Hop declined from 12.9 in 2000. Thank gosh! Rock (Alternative, etc) & Techno (Electronica, Trance, etc) are my favorite genres for music. I however do like some Hip Hop/Rap though, but mostly its not my thing, haha.
EH, as much as I HATE to say this but,I think hip hop/rap needs to transform before it becomes an afterthought like Disco, and Jazz(still farely popular).
Because hiphop was the biggest selling genre in the last decade and now its not.

yea and i still dont see where hip hop is dead by your stats. Thats the worst thing about it . You didn't even back up why exactly hip hop is dead.
i find it funny that hip hop is dead but at the same time a hip hop artist is alwaysi invited to perform in major events right?
if hip hop were dead then i wonder why they didnt use a alternative r ock band to play in the last world series but used 40 year old rapper jay z huh? , or the past weekend with 99.9 percent of the performances in the all star games being hip hop artist?
To make it even worse most of the times when you look at charts theirs always a hip hop artist that's number 1,2 , or 3 in sales respectively so i dont see how its dead if its still being advertised in full force.

Oh no. definitely not dead! He probably wants it to die anyway.
yea you can tell he wants it to die to smh. Anyway hip hop needs to start putting their attention to artist with talent, and less attention to clowns(wacka flocka/soulja boy have no hip hop skills)
