Perhaps he is referring to its' historic character. Charleston is hardly 'forgotten'...it's a very popular tourist destination, and a growing metro.

It's just not on the national radar, except maybe as a tourist attraction for a few people. I doubt if most Americans could even find it on a map. Of course that is also true of St George, which isn't even in the same class as the other three towns.

I disagree. Charleston is IMO very well known, especially on the East Coast. Internationally, it is known for the Spoleto Festival, one of the most prestigious performing arts festivals in the world.

Well, Americans can't find lots of cities on maps unfortunately. But Charleston is indeed on the national and international radar for its tourism, cuisine, and culture. I'd even argue that it probably has more notoriety than any other city on the list.
