Criteria:
- Weather: Saint Louis

- Sports (Professional): Saint Louis (Although both are great sports cities) but I got to give it to our arch rivals The Cardinals. Easily one of the Top 5 Best Baseball teams in history.

- Education (Higher Ed): Saint Louis. Washington University at Saint Louis

- Education (K-12) The seem about even but I'll give the edge (slight edge) to Saint Louis

- Dining: Diverse dining options are more in Saint Louis (ethnic food), but Cleveland has more cultural food and more easily accessible foods, Saint Louis has a bit more upscale dining options from my experience. Overall toss up.

- Downtown: Cleveland

- Architecture (Who is better?): Saint Louis easily. Historically & Architecturally the Arch is one magnificent piece of work.

- Location: Saint Louis is at the crossroads of some of my favorite cities, Dallas, Chicago, etc

- Public Transportation: Saint Louis for rail, Cleveland for bus

- Economy (Larger): Saint Louis

- Economy (Healthier): Tie

- Population (Loss/Gain?): Saint Louis is gaining since the start of the decade, Cleveland still needs to make a rebound.

- Scenery: Both have something here and there. Cleveland has a Great Lake, but Saint Louis has a nice downtown setting on the Mississippi River and the Arch just makes it look great. Tie

- Activities: Tie, they are probably similar in this regard

- Roads: Tie.

- Parks: Saint Louis

- Shopping: Cleveland

Overall: Saint Louis for me, but Cleveland is a cool city.

I've seen the housing style in Saint Louis, they have some wonderful and beautiful homes! What do some of the homes in Cleveland look like? I'm not all to familiar with Cleveland.

Jw, what types of housing do you typically see in Cleveland? (somebody post some pics) In St. Louis, you see a lot of row housing, usually red brick, but sometimes other variations. You see it all over the city:

^ I was talking about the type of housing you'd find in the dense, urban neighborhoods. There are plenty of those mansions types around St. Louis and the suburbs, but not usually in the dense city neighborhoods.

It's a tough call, I like both.
As far as architectural aspects go, St Louis wins. I much rather live in the Cleveland area though. I like how Cleveland is right on lake Erie, and it has somewhat of a lower crime rate. Urban accessibility goes to Cleveland, and I prefer the weather in Cleveland (I love the amount snowfall Cleveland receives each year)
However, I think St Louis is the more cultured city.

Overall... Cleveland

The Cleveland metro area as a whole doesn't have a lower crime rate than St. Louis' metro area. This data is from 2008. It's the latest data that lists the crime rankings for both St. Louis metro & Cleveland metro. The 2009 figures list St. Louis but not Cleveland, the 2010 figures list Cleveland but not St. Louis.

http://os.cqpress.com/citycrime/MetroCrime2008_Rank_Rev.pdf

In 2008, St. Louis metro area ranked 127th (103rd in 2009). Cleveland metro ranked 100th (97 in 2010) It's listed as highest crime rate to lowest crime rate. So really, both metro areas are very safe.

St. Louis isn't big on rowhouses. As shown, St. Louis is mostly made of red brick, dense, single-family structures with a very tight space in between. While there are a few examples of rowhouses in St. Louis, most of the housing is like the majority of the photos. Cleveland on the other hand, is made of larger single family homes that are more spread apart than St. Louis.

I think St. Louis is a more beautiful city with its architecture. Also, the Weather is better in St. Louis, and there seems to be more opportunity in the St. Louis area.

actually i would argue that the majority of st. louis housing is not single family, but rather 2 and 4 family flats.
