South Shore Staten Island is more dissimilar to NYC as a whole than the parts of New Jersey close to Manhattan

I agree!
The physical layout and density of Hudson County really resembles the rest of NYC.
Staten Island looks like a New Jersey suburb and how it became a borough is amazing.

I was going to be a smartass and say Albany, but I see the ridiculous options have already been presented ad-nauseam.

Yup, Hudson County is by far the best answer. Hudson County includes Jersey City btw, for those who just said Jersey City.

Hudson sits directly across the river from both Downtown and Midtown Manhattan. The county has some very dense communities and is about the same size as the 5 boroughs.

Land area of the 5 boroughs and Hudson County (land area only)

Manhattan ---- 22.8 square miles
The Bronx ----- 42.0 square miles
Hudson -------- 46.2 square miles
Staten Island - 58.5 square miles
Brooklyn ------ 71.0 square miles
Queens County 109 square miles
