also, isn't the cost of living in these 'terrible' places extremely cheap? if so, that could be at least one redeeming quality they all have..
In places like Lubbock, it's cheap for a reason. You have a high crime rate, the job market overly is saturated by T Tech grads, it's in quite possibly the ugliest location in West Texas (which is saying a lot), and rednecks who stay in Lubbock for ten years after college graduation to experience the "college party life" also tend to drive down the real estate value.

You know, the thread wouldn't be dominated by the discussion about how much poor Atlanta is picked on if the Atlanta boosters didn't keep bringing it up.
Every city has their issues, Gary and Camden for example were once vibrant, well maintained cities. They both crumbled for the same reason. The industrial hype came to an end and people fled to the burbs. The poverty was all that could stick around for the most part. When a place gets abandoned like that, the crime spreads.
A city is only terrible because one thinks it's terrible, there aren't any truly terrible cities. Of course, I'm not saying places like ESTL/Camden/Gary etc are special little cities- They're for the most part, dumps- But if you were to take a tour of these cities and look past the grit and decay. You can see that they were once beautiful cities.
I know that the arts program in Camden has posted numerous videos of the talent throughout the city. To know there's good, wholesome people living in these places makes these people all the more special. (Michael Jackson came from Gary) It's not easy growing up successfully in these kinds of places. The more hope the better.
Flint's Southside used to be the worst part of the city, although nowadays this is not true. Crime is certainly worse today in the North and East sections of the city but it is still bad in the immediate southside. Some of the worst urban decay and blight in the city can be found on the Southside (at least in my experience with the city of Flint, having lived there on and off throughout my childhood and into my early adult years).
I thought parts of the Eastside near Kearsley were still alright. It seems like the Westside into the Carmen-Ainsworth area is alright and seems to be what I call Flint's Black suburbia is located in terms of a nice urban/suburban area with a high Black population. It's been a while since I've been out that way.

I get your point, but I personally would much rather live in Camden than in Atlanta.
lmao there's the ATL posters like you and brent6969 that make me feel the need to take shots at ATL every so often. then there's ATL posters like Akhen. (and a bunch of others) that make me regret doing it after.
there's nothing wrong with your city. there's just something wrong with a couple of you guys.
outside of this forum, I would never criticize ATL--and I'm sure many of the 'ATL haters' on here wouldn't either. a few of you just make it absolutely necessary.
