I voted NYC. I love the desnity and diverse architecture. NYC has 300+ year old buildings and brand new buildings all over the place. Amazing.
Well, last time I checked, CD isn't only about buildings.

Mountain backdrops are nice. But I prefer urban backdrops--skyscrapers, high-rises. I like mountains when they're by themselves, just nature.
This kind of poll has been done to death, but I still enjoy partaking.
San Fran's is beautiful indeed, particularly the surroundings and the ocean. The downtown itself is rather nice, and the steep streets add flair. But if youre going for architectural flair, Id give it a 3 out of 5. With quakes in the area, alot of buildings are a form-follows-function kinda deal, the designs are not so stunning as they are purposeful.
NYC wins for overall size and sheer immensity. I love the art deco Chrysler and the Empire State Building is beautiful. But even with buildings like the Rockerfeller and the Guggenheim that are stunning, theyre too few and far between in NYC's gargantuan skyline. The rest of the skyline is nice, but not stunning like the above mentioned.
Chicago has always been my fave. Im blessed to live nearby and enjoy it. There are sooooo many types of architecture, and all are stunning examples: Wrigley Building, Tribune Tower, John Hancock Center, Aon Center, Prudential 2 Tower, NBC Building, Bank One Plaza, Carbide and Carbon Building, House of Blues Hotel, Field Museum, Pretzker Pavilion, Sears Tower, Harold Washington Library, Chicago Temple Building, Adler Planetarium, Marina City, etc, etc, etc. Even the upcoming Chicago Spire is quite stunning, even if it doenst mesh with Chicago's skyline perfectly. Chicago wins for size and diversity. Add the beautiful lake and its "openness" and youve got a winner. Chicago at night is like a beautiful woman in pearls and a black dress, breathtaking and jaw-dropping.
No kidding. I'll just spill out the top three, ok maybe four just to be nice to California...In no particular order...Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, followed by Dallas, Houston, and Seattle.
i just googled pics of houston's skyline. what's so special about it that i'm not getting? i'd definitely put sf, pitts, and seattle ahead of it. probably atlanta, too.

More than likely, what you saw was a portion of the downtown area which isn't even half of the entire skyline. Collectively, it's one of the largest skylines in the world, third largest in the country after NY and CHI. Houston could use a signature building that makes it standout, but until then, it's size will do.
If you would put those cities before it, that's your issue, but I certainly wouldn't.
Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Minneapolis, Houston, Philly, Miami, Pittsburgh, maybe Atlanta.
Atlanta looks good in a postcard shot, but knowing that next to their huge skyscrapers there are giant surface parking lots and single-story buildings makes it seem like a weird collection of misfits to me. It's almost as though I can't take it seriously (I'm not trying to knock Atlanta, but it's just a noticeable characteristic of the city that has always struck me as kind of odd).

Seattle is the best IMO, and if you didn't already know it Seattle must rank high on CD's list as it is represented in the CD backdrop header photo, check out this thread about it....
