I am dreadfully tired of seeing that boxy skyline in every media production. That's why I despise it so much. LA has an overrated skyline in my opinion.
LA's sksycrapers will "never" have spires as you see in some other city's skylines
The city of LA has very tuff ordinances on skyscrapers and one of them is that these "Must Have" helipads, there is no way around that one!
On the positive side I am very proud that our city is determined to give the tenentas
of LA'S skyscrapers a fighting chance against any calamity should it ever hit a building downtown
helicopters will be able to land on their roofs, unless of course they were aliens
ready to destroy the entire city, which I am sure some people would really like to see
It's hard to decide between Chicago and New York. Chicago is architecturally more beautiful IMO, while New York is just impressive and mind blowing with size. I think New York has at least the same if not way more impressive buildings than Chicago. I think the big difference is because Chicago is less dense it's skyscrapers are "showcased" much better. For instance just the buildings alone on the Chicago River, you are able to 'really' see them. In New York it is harder because the buildings are just more crowded.
IMO overall New York has the superior size and variety of architecture, but Chicago is much better in 'showcasing' and creating a much better visual experience with it's skyline. It gives you enough space to really see the building.
Cpomp, haven't you been to Dt. LA? Downtown LA is filled with old towers around Broadway, Hill, Spring and Grand. I stand by my facts. I've been to both downtown recently. You'll see that even Atlanta, Houston and Denver have more impressive skyline and are more prominent. On the contrary, I like Philly but not it rants as being the best downtown around. I had to set the record straight. I'm getting out of Philly's threads/forum for now. I hope the Philaphians are more realistic and humble, not thinking way off base as being the #1 or #3 best. That's silly. I'm a realist. Keep it real, please.
SD.Calif, it's not that big either. it looks very similar to Minneapolis' skyline. I'd say it's borderline between small and average size. When you go there, it seems even smaller to me. Walk down those stairs at Museum of Arts that was depicted on Rocky's. However, it's tall but not as tall as LA or Seattle.
You're right...it's not the same size as Seattle: it's taller. Philedelphia's Comcast Center tops out at 975ft while Seattle is only 968ft. L.A. isn't much taller at 1,018ft. Minneapolis skyline isn't as big either and tops out at 792ft. So as the pictures below will show you.... it's of similar size to L.A. and Seattle.
