I notice a glut of cities with a metro (not city) population of about 2 million. Which of these has had the most combined cultural, economic and social influence on the country and their respective region? I know some are more influential in some areas, but if you could average out the 'overall' influence which would you pick?
I voted Pittsburgh. San Jose, Baltimore, and Tampa are up there. Crap, I just now saw Denver. I would have voted Denver. But I think Pittsburgh has more influence over a greater region than the others. Baltimore is overshadowed by DC, Tampa Miami and Orlando (and the same two for Orlando), and San Jose by San Francisco.

Orlando's not really overshadowed by any of the other cities in Florida, or on the list. It's hard to be overshadowed when your city has more international name recognition and visitors than any other comparable sized metro.
Orlando has more international name recognition than any other city on the poll because of its tourism.
Yet it (Orlando) still isn't in the same league as many of the cities listed including Denver, San Jose, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore. Of course this is my opinion so don't get too worked up over it.

To add on to your post though, I also think Las Vegas easily takes it for name recognition here. Las Vegas is known globally more than several cities that are actually millions larger than it, whether in the USA or out of USA.
Denver is the most powerful of the lot, it's the premier city for the Front Range Mega Region/Interior Mountain West.
the baltimore and denver metro areas and cleveland's csa are closer to the 3 million mark, along with st. louis.
