L.A. has not had half the development DC has had since 2004. That's why its CBD absolutely crushes LA's CBD. Downtown DC is bigger and growing at a much faster rate than DTLA.
Plus, LA still has the problem of "relentlessly accommodating the automobile" throughout the rest of the city. It's hard to get that big city urban feel with strip malls, parking lots, and four lane roads all over the city.
I lived in DC for over 25 years and never thought much of dt DC. I don't think it crushes dt LA by any means. Lol!!! Still have property there. Was there recenty and it still has a long way to go. Improving yes, but to be as old as it is, and to be on the east coast, it still doesn't measure up to its other eastcoast counterparts. Oh well. Dt LA has made great strides in just a couple of years. Absolutely amazing imo.
If LA is so great, btw, why can't it just remain as is? Why is there this urgency to radically change the design of the city (road diets, mixed use, etc.).

I'm just saying. You don't see any threads in the NYC, DC or Boston forums where people are discussing how they can add more highways, single family homes, and parking lots.

^^LA is driving culture unless i missed something in past year
No, you're right for the most part, but it's far more walkable than given credit for.
It's also more densely populated than Philly, DC and Boston. Did you get that memo in the last 12 months?
