Well, for one thing hi-rises are not really exclusive to NY (I know they use that language in the article, I've read it before).
I really hope they don't turn it into Manhattan 2.0 - Which they won't because the residents of the Hollywood will keep any tower from getting much taller than the Sunset/Vine building, at least IMO.
This article is in reference to the Hollywood Community plan that was just updated. Its main goals are improving density near the Red Line stops, decreasing parking requirements, increasing architectural standards (bye-bye strip malls - already being destroyed at a rapid pace) and GASP - preserving the historic, low-rise single family neighborhoods and bungalow courts.
It’s funny reading this thread and realizing just how different the Internet world can be from the real world. I've seen some posters from the Bay Area defending LA to the death, while the East Coast posters can’t fathom how a city that doesn’t look exactly like the cities found in Northeastern corridor could possibly be appealing. In real life, I’ve met very few people in the Bay Area who have anything good to say about Los Angeles, while my friends from back East have used words such as “amazing” to describe their visits to LA.
