Part of St Paul's charm is that it is not up and comming. It has no desire to be up and comming. It is rooted in it's past and it's traditions. It is sort of like a museum version of what Minneapolis would have been like if it hadn't become a big city.

Oaksterdam is positioning itself to be a boom town for one of the only rapidly growing industries in the nation, and I don't think I need to mention which industry by name

I thought Proposition 19 was voted down. How much could medical marijuana be capitalized on unless doctors out there have very loose pads?

Fort Lauderdale gets my second vote. Beautiful and attractive beaches, canals, and downtown. It's come a long way from it's spring break party roots. It's also much friendlier and less manic than Miami, but still has that colorful South Florida cachet.

Well, I think it should have some desire to be up and coming because a dying city can only have so much charm. The city has been losing population since 1960 and doesn't seem to be doing much to prevent it. The problem with both Minneapolis and St. Paul is that there are too many natives and many of those natives are scared of change and are very provincial in their thinking. Neighborhood groups are allowed too much say, so much that projects have a lot of hurdles to clear. It's gotten to the point where it actually sickens me so much that I'm thinking it's time to leave.

I was in NYC a couple of weeks ago and could not get over how the view across the Hudson has changed. The Newport/Pavonia section of Jersey City as well as northward up through Hoboken to Weehawken has really built out with quite a skyline.

St. Petersburg, FL should have probably been an option here too. I've heard good things about its downtown.

Which city would one list for Hampton Roads? Norfolk is second by population but is still seen as the the primary urban center of the region.

Oakland has lots of areas with high crime and what not, but that isn't stopping thousands of newcomers and transplants from enjoying the city's culture, art, restaurant, bar and entertainment scenes, which now is quite active compared to just a few years ago. Depending on who is asking, saying you live in Oakland either means you live in a 'vicious ghetto' or you live in one of the coolest, hottest, most trendiest cities around.
