Maryland. You cant beat the urban Northeast corridor. California is a cool state nonetheless.

California simply because it has more of a variety. MD has location.

I live in Maryland and have family in California. California is nice, but I prefer visiting there to living.

I prefer the east coast for overall lifestyle, rich history and proximity to many desireable places. Though California has much better name recognition than Maryland, if that's important.

California, pimpin. In California, I can hit the mountains and go skiing. When I'm done skiing, I can hike down the mountain and go to work (in my ski gear). I get off work and go to the beach and surf bro!!! Where else can you celebrate a 70 degree Christmas? Just kidding, I was trying to channel some of the CFornians on here.

I like MD but CA just kills MD. California just wins this if the normal criteria is used: Bay area vs DC, BMore vs LA, Annapolis vs Sacramento or San Diego??? Isn't Cali more "progressive" than MD. I promise you that Tupac's next album will be better than Wale's joint. I guess that California is hella serious bro...Westside!!!

Another thing to keep in mind: California is more than 13 TIMES the size of Maryland in land area. So, how does anyone compare the two? You'd have to add several more states to Maryland to equal the land area of California.

As it stands though, Maryland has a higher GDP per capita than California.
