Default Is LA on NYC's level?

People from California seem to think LA is on the level of NYC but when asked how they cant respond with anything to prove LA is equally important as NYC. I want to hear what non Californians have to say about it and whether they think LA stacks up to our nations premier city. What do you think, are NYC and LA are equals or NYC is head and shoulders above LA in most subjects?

NYC is the best city in the country hands down, from a native Californian.

However Los Angeles is the most important city on the West Coast because of the music/movie industry and the sheer size.

What's the reason for them being on the same tier? Just curious what you think makes LA an equal to NYC

Very fair argument and I agree. LA is the most important city on the west coast. But I think NYC is above and beyond LA. For the other people that think they are equals I just want legit reasons why they think NYC and LA are equals because from what I can tell NYC has no equals

New York is the more important city. They aren't really on the same level. LA is a tier below New York City.

No LA can get destroyed today and most people wouldn't give a damn. But if D.C. gets wiped out then the gov't in this country collapses.

They're definitely not on the same tier. I can see Los Angeles making an argument in terms of culture...but in terms of economy and overall influence, I don't see how one could make a case for Los Angeles.

In all honesty, I consider Chicago to be slightly more important from an economic standpoint. Yes, Los Angeles has a larger GDP, but Chicago has an extremely important position in financial services, a very significant sector where Los Angeles is virtually non-existent.

I certainly wouldn't go that far. Even a city like Kansas City or Omaha being totally destroyed would send shockwaves through the economy. You're eliminating 14,000,000+ people...that would be catastrophic and felt around the planet.
