For some reason, you equate rail transit as the only form of mass transit. There are other forms of mass transit. Houston trumps any city in the South as far as bus systems, HOVs, and Park and Rides go. DART rail ridership is pretty low, considering how many miles it has. Atlanta MARTA is the same way. Miami has low ridership on its heavy rail system, too. And Houston's Phase II rail expansion that restarted construction last week:

You live in a hick country town called Fort Worth which will never see the day of even having a mass transit system. Go and live in your irrelevant hick town and stop meddling in things out of your city's league

that reason might fly with someone who doesn't know both Houston and Atlanta, but I do. the trees have nothing to do with Atlanta feeling smaller. it's the smaller freeways and less high rises that makes it feel smaller. Houston just gives off a bigger, more international feel. but this is all just opinion. to each his own

That is surely alright with me that I live in a Hick Town...Yea 70% of those residents in that Hick town wanted a streetcar but our city council and democratic mayor voted it down because they are too scared of the Bass brothers who own downtown Fort Worth. The old guard is still alive in well in Fort Worth and anything that doesn't serve downtown interest they are aganist it.

Not to mention the feel of each city once you get off of the freeways. In Atlanta, when you get off of the freeways, you're more likely to be on a country looking road that twist and turns and is only one lane in each direction. In Houston, there is a massive street grid system with roads that have two, three, and even four (Westheimer) lanes in each direction.

Here is Houston's street grid: http://www.houstontx.gov/planning/DevelopRegs/mobility/MTFPMap/MTFP_Map10.pdf (broken link)

And interesting debate on Houston/Dallas/Atlanta in this thread: Game Over For Atlanta? This guy thinks so...

Houston's bus fleet is much larger than ATL's.

Houston also has wider freeways & more HOV lanes.
