what major CSA's cover the same land area as some major MSA's?
I know some MSA's in this country cover massive land area's. Some are so large they are comparible to major CSA's in land area. What are some examples of comparable CSA's to MSA's land area arould the country? How do they compare population wise? How do they compare density wise? If they are the same land area size, which offers the best:
Transportation for the entire region
Airports
Schools
Food options
Density
Culture
Economy
Complete Downtown Office Space
Nightlife
Urbanity
Natural beauty
Diversity
Weather
Shopping
Here is a group of similar MSA's/CSA's to compare between 8,000 - 10,000 sq. mi.
D.C./Baltimore CSA Population= 8.4 million
Atlanta MSA = Population = 5.4 million
Houston MSA = Population = 5.8 million
Chicago CSA = Population = 9.5 million
Dallas MSA = Population = 6.4 million
Bay Area CSA = Population = 7.4 million
Greater St. Louis CSA = Population = 2.8 million
Sacramento MSA = Population = 2.5 million

True, but once you threw in water for Houston; it's under 9000 sq miles.

I am not certain if the figures for the other metros I posted includes water also.
CSA's like the Bay are on the smaller side
The Bay is about 8k sq miles
Compare that to the LA CSA which is almost 60, 000 sq miles.
NY CSA is about 12 000 sq miles
Chicago's CSA is about 12K
Houston CSA is about 12K
ATL CSA is about 12K
DFW CSA is about 14, 000 sq miles
Seattle's CSA is about 10, 00 sq miles
Minn/St Paul CSA is about 10, 000 sq miles.
Houston is rather average sized by MSA and CSA. LA and Phoenix are huge.

That is not quite accurate.
The CSA includes MSA's such as Hagerstown with an area of 1000sq miles
Winchester MSA which is 1,100 sq miles
Culpepper county 400 sq miles
so in actuality the DC Balt CSA is more like 11, 000 sq miles.

I made that statement incorrectly; I meant if you exclude water; Houston is smaller.

I know what you meant.
CSA's are all really average except for LA, Vegas and SLC. wow, SLC has a huge CSA and the pop is only 1.7M, wow
wow, Phoenix, San Antonio, Tampa, Jacksonville, Portland, and some other areas have no CSA
and MSAs:
those western MSA's are huge
