1. North Dakota. Never been here but from what I've read and seen online it seems very flat with winters too extreme for me. No large cities either. Very conservative as well.

2. Wyoming. Yellowstone is beautiful but not all the state looks like that. The drive across I-80 features some very stark desert scenery. Not my thing. No cities.

3. Michigan. Detroit does not interest me at all. No other major cities (apologies to those who think Grand Rapids and Lansing are major cities).

That's all. Every other state has something I can find some happiness in.

1. Washington - was born there, spent about half my childhood there, but when I moved there as an adult, I couldn't stand it. I can't think of anything in my life that would convince me to move back there.

2. New York - NYC is so far up its own hole... maybe that's why it's so dark there 9 months out of the year... when I lived there, I found the place to be too fernetic and hectic and people to be on too short a fuse, and this is after having lived in Boston, LA, and SF. I was engaged to a girl from Albany and have spent time in Albany, Niagara, Buffalo, etc. and can't think of any reason I'd be interested in moving anywhere else in the state, either.

3. Alabama - had a friend who lived in Mobile for a few years. Zzzzz. We drove around the state a bit so that we could wring out his M5, and the z's carried on mile after mile.

4. Iowa - been back and forth through the state a few times. Cornfields! Woohoo.

5. The Dakotas - our family has a bunch of land out there for some reason; I think some huckster must have sold someone oceanfront property to a relative just after they got off the boat from Sweden back in the 1880's. I had to go out there for a couple weeks with a surveyor because some major corporations were using our land for something and my grandma was in the hospital. Dear god, that was probably one of the most boring stretches of my life. I mean sure, I read a lot of books and did some day hiking... shot some stuff with a rifle... otherwise? Cracker Barrel cheese, Doritos, beer, tractors, and snow.

You realize that was a satirical piece right? NJ has one of the largest populations of Indians in the country. I've seen large numbers of non-Indians go to garba or other cultural/religious events. They played bhangra-mixed hip hop at my high school senior prom.

The guy was just trying to explain his mixed feelings. Anyone would be uncomfortable too if their childhood home changed in one way or the other, regardless of what the actual change is.

Why, there are some states that are pretty much nothing and don't have say a Madison or a Milwaukee.
