I considering these two cities; as I am moving from Toronto. I am just out of college and single. I have been offered between 40 and 45k in Vegas, and between 60 and 65k in San Diego.

Which city would be best given the salary difference?

Any info would be great!

Thanks

San Diego is one of the most amazing cities in the entire world. You will regret not moving there. Las Vegas has its perks, but is best experienced on a weekend road trip from SD with the guys.

I'll agree with Chest that San Diego is about the most beautiful place in the country, and the weather can't be beat. However, that comes at a price. You'd probably be able to live better on $40k in Vegas than you can on $60k in San Diego- prices for housing, while not as cheap as they used to be, are far less expensive in Las Vegas than they are in San Diego. You can find fairly inexpensive housing in SD, but it's not going to be in safe areas that you'd want to live in.

The salary differential is big enough to wash the difference in living costs. Given that you are starting out and in a rental situation head for San Diego.

I don't really think it close.

Even though I like Las Vegas, if you can, pick San Diego.

The Veg for sure.I live just outside of SD and it is so overrated, boring and expensive here. That's just my opinion.Hoping to move to Vegas by summer 2008-2010.

Default San Diego in a heartbeat

Having lived in both places, I can easily say that San Diego is the much better choice. Vegas is fine, but your salary won't buy any more here than the salary you are getting in San Diego. It's actually unusual that you were offered a better salary in SD. That doesn't happen too often, which is why people like me came to Vegas (got offered more money to move here than to stay in SD). But, SD has it all, absolutely perfect climate (if you love an average in the 70's with rain mostly in the evenings and no real natural disasters to speak of - other than the potential for an earthquake - which Vegas has as well only with sweltering heat in summer and colder winters), beautiful beaches and cliffs and oceans, lots of nice college communities, a totally revitalized, hip downtown, great museums and the best zoo and wildlife preserve probably in the entire country. Much more culture than Vegas, and you are within a 2 hour drive of LA and 5 hours to Vegas, so you can get the best of everything.
