The Sister City program is a universal one. Many cities are paired with their "counterparts" in other countries. And many cities have plenty of sister cities.

How many does your city have? What are they? And what are some programs your city works with their sister city to develop?

Also note, some cities will share another city as "sister city" with others in the USA. It's just a common thing for most places. Like Beijing (for example) can have 2-3 American Cities it's a sister city to.

Wikipedia puts it as, "Twin towns and sister cities are two of many terms used to describe the cooperative agreements between towns, cities and even counties in geographically and politically distinct areas to promote cultural and commercial ties." That's pretty much it. Apparently the earliest twinning happened in 836 between a German and French town.

The modern process started shortly after WWI, but it looks like it really took off after WWII to promote closeness and understanding and stuff like that between Europeans after the War and I guess it spread to the rest of the world. Also North America's first one was in the 30's between Toledo, OH and Toledo, Spain.

Wiki says these are Dallas' sister cities

Edit: confirmed through the official Sister Cities website.

I'm digging the Monterrey Sister City status, as I was born there but grew up in Dallas.
