City with the best high schools? (state, rates, America, life)

What city gets your vote for having the best high schools?

Best being:

- safe and stable environment for kids
- placing kids in respectable universities
- having good extra curricular activities which keep kids busy
- being in good conditions (walls not being torn down etc)
- having good overall test scores

Of course all cities will have schools like that but which ones have the highest number of them!?

Are you talking about major cities? Public, private, or charter schools?

Any of the big cities really, yea you can say major cities.

Any type of high schools with less emphasis on private high schools

For a big city/suburban setting: Boston metro area

For a smaller city: Madison, WI

In most metro areas in the US, the best public schools in the area are in suburbs, and most big cities have pretty horrible public education. There might be one or two highly rated schools in a big city, but usually the rest of them are war zones.

Are we talking about the city proper? If so, then I'll piggy back off my post in another thread and say that I was surprised to see the quality of education in San Antonio. Every school in the North East Independent School District made Newsweek's list of top schools (except the special school for at-risk students); at Reagan high, 73% of graduating seniors passed an AP exam. And all of the schools in the district are located in San Antonio.

Is it in a more suburbanized area of the city?

Also, in Buffalo, I know they have some good magnet public high schools like City Honors, Hutch Tech, McKinley Vocational, DiVinci and even Emerson and Arts High have above average grad. rates.
