“The most beautiful city in North America,” is how Paris’s famed newspaper Le Monde describes Savannah today. The Toronto Sunday Sun says of this alluring city: “Savannah wears her past like a fine old cape, draped in Southern graciousness, pockets filled with treasures of a rich, proud history.”

I never said that but I do think Savannah lik many other cities have world class "attributes" but is not world class as of yet.Based on the quotes above I think thats a very air assessment.

C'mon, let's not kid ourselves. Savannah is really far from world class. There's just no disputing it. It probably never will be. It still is a charming town that has alot of character and beauty.

San Francisco does not have the level of world-class museums that DC does. The iconic sites in DC also have much more importance than SF. I rate DC above SF for that alone.

DC has more museums than San Francisco and some of the largest collections anywhere--and the fact that the Smithsonian is free is one of the greatest attractions. So you could rank DC above SF in this category.

However, San Francisco does have 4 world-class museums, especially since 3 of them were recently remodeled: the DeYoung Art Museum, the California Academy of Sciences, the Asian Art Museum, and the SF MOMA. Add in the surrounding Bay Area and places like the Lawerence Hall of Science at Berekely or Oakland Museum of California or the Tech Museum or Rosecrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose, and it's a large range to choose from.

The new rainforest exhibit at the California Academy of Sciences is one of the best I've seen in any sort of natual sciences museum or zoo.

I'd say both DC and SF are world-class in this regard...Especially since you could proably find other large foreign cities in places in Asia or Latin America(or even parts of Europe), which might rank high in a listing of world-class or world cities but wouldn't have the same calibre of museums.

No particular order:

San Francisco
New York
Los Angeles
Washington DC
Chicago

These are the only ones I can say in the same breath as London/Paris/Tokyo/Rome/Toronto/Hong Kong and not feel like a silly civic booster (and my own is borderline if I didn't think of including the rest of the Bay Area).

Why would Dallas be in the Fat Chance category? I do generally agree with your list. But I would move Dallas to dreaming of world class status.

Yea, toward the bottom it got a little dicey. I could see movement in those categories. I could see Dallas and Seattle switching and Miami possibly dropping out. I also was a bit rough on Detroit. It will come back.

Well as I have said it before.Dallas is more upscale overall than Houston.Dallas just has more options. Now Houston does have a better arts scene so maybe that is why some would say Houston is more so than Dallas.
