I know some metro area's love subway system's and commuter rail and other cities hate them and prefer massive highways and road expansions. What does your city prefer and why? If they had unlimited money, what would they build?
Denver doesn't get excited about either, because it generally means higher taxes or higher commute times. But people are much more supportive of highway widening and big highway projects. Mass transit is a mass failure in Denver.
The St Louis area's Metro light rail system is still expanding. There are plans and proposals galore for new lines. I think people are, for the most part, in favor of the Metro system, save for St Charles County residents who habitually vote down having it expand there.
Highways? Well, the St Louis area just recently completed a very major rebuild of a very high-travelled interstate highway-- I-64 (aka locally as Highway 40.). I can tell you that it wasn't the most popular highway project in the history of St Louis, with a major artery completely shut down for years. Many residents felt that the effort and money would have been better directed toward expanding Metro or other transportation projects.
I really don't get excited. In Dallas we have 72 miles of light rail track.
Didn't you make a thread complaining about Dallas freeways?
