I think those last two sentences are fair.

They run every couple of minutes and yes they are clean. There is so much subway and light rail construction going on right now. And wait until the regional connector opens in 2 years in downtown LA.

It's great news that LA continues building rail. Philly's system is wonderful, I'm so appreciative that we have it, but I do wish we could continue building like LA is doing. We need more coverage and expansion.

Where is the funding for LA's expansion coming from, do you know?

Cty scape lets give a check mark to Philly. But LA shouldnt fret as Philadelphias classic downtown cityscape might beat every city in the country - Manhattan aside.

Overall setting is subjective. LA's highs are off the chart but mother nature tends to keep the west coast grounded with alot of earth toned forgetful land area mixed in.

The Philly area on the otherhand is nestled against the Piedmont resulting in pretty much a very pleasing landscape everywere. An endless sea of rolling hills + valleys, forests, bays, big fresh water rivers and hundreds of streams

But do we have to drive so far away to see all the beauty? Rehobeth? Valley Forge? Wildwood? Come on now. LA's is right here in our backyard. All pics by me.

The trains are mostly reliable but they don't run every couple of minutes. The subway red and purple lines each run every 10 minutes at rush hour. This is a combined every 5 minutes downtown but if you're going to Hollywood, etc it's every 10 minutes.

Most of the light rail runs every 6 minutes at rush hour except the green line which is 7-8 minutes. Expo and especially the blue line struggle to meet the timetable trip duration especially at rush hour. The blue line also has fairly frequent delays for various issues both within and outside Metro control.

Valley Forge and the rolling hills of PA are not far from the city at all. Beaches are 1.5hrs, but still very much connected to the region.

Also, Philadelphia has a much nice skyline, especially after seeing those pics.

In the end, LA and Philly are really hard to compare, both great cities to live in, but cater to different needs. I personally would never live in LA, I love NYC and PHL, but I have friends who moved to LA and prefer it out there, comes down to personal preferences, you can't simply say 1 city is superior to the other.

You don't even have leave Philly for rolling hills and dense forest--that's what Fairmount is there for. And immediately beyond the city's borders you have fabulously leafy suburbs.

- Weather: LA is really hard to beat here.
- Scenery: LA. IMO the Western US cannot be beat. Very Few places back East can compete with the West
- Economy: LA
- Education: Both are great in terms of higher education. Maybe slight edge to Philly for having an Ivy
- Parks: LA
- Waterfront: LA. Ocean > River. LA probably has my #2 favorite city waterfront in The US behind Miami
- Downtown activity: Philly. But LA is improving.
- Shopping: LA
- Diversity: LA
- Housing stock: I prefer Philly's since it's much more urban.
- Nightlife: LA, but both of these places need to fix their early last call
- Mass Transit: Philly.
- Niche Industry (What are they for either?): LA is Film/Hollywood. Philly is..... I don't even know, and I lived in the Philly area for a few years. I'm not sure Philly really has a niche industry that it's famous for. At least not to the extent of LA
- Pace of life: I prefer Philly as it's slightly faster and that's just what I'm used to. Out west everything and everybody moves so slowly. Even food service.
- Safety: depends.
- Quality of life: depends. Completely subjective
- Cost of living: probably Philly
- Dining scene: LA
