Atlanta is very underrated, imo. The only people that have anything good to say about it are the ones from there, like me. Everyone else has this image like you'll get shot at and robbed soon as you get off the plane at Harstfield-Jackson Airport.

You have got to be joking. Honestly Atlanta over San Diego. PLZ! In my opinion, Atlanta is just..ok. Sure a few things here and there, but hello, talk about sprawltastic!
San Diego has low, low crime, very clean, family friendly, lots to do, good schools, great suburbs, diversity and culture galore, close proximty to LA, and yes, we do have the best weather in the nation. The thousands that moved here last year because of that can't be wrong. Sure we are pricey. But so what! We have a standard of lving that makes it well worth it. Tell me a place that is like San Diego without the price. Unless it is some small suburb of of a major city, THERE ISN"T.

Texas' biggest secret. Experience Austin before it was hyped and popular. A great alternative to the overcrowded Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

What's great about San Diego is the beaches, ocean, palm trees, and mountains just to name a few. People say "well you can find beaches everywhere". But the only other major US cities to have a big beach scene are LA and Miami and those 2 cities have so many problems it's not even worth it. San Diego has it's problems but it's still a good city. I'm always puzzled by people who say SD is boring or that it's not that great. I think the city has great scenery, weather, and lots of things to do. Different strokes I suppose.

There is no opportunity in San Diego. The wages are stagnant and low compared to L.A. Los Angeles is more classier and more developed.
Is Seattle over hyped?

It's not overpriced, and for some I guess it's not overrated, but I think Charlotte is way too overhyped. Having lived in the area the majority of my life, I can see why people appreciate it, but that slower pace of life is starting to go down the drain. The schools and DOT cannot handle the growth, traffic is getting worse (by no means do we live in NYC, LA, DC, Atlanta, etc., but it's never been this bad), and I personally haven't run into too much of the Southern hospitality that people like to brag about. I ran into more of that in other cities such as Winston-Salem and Columbia, SC. Maybe I need to be on the outside looking in, but I just don't understand what makes this area so much different from other cities in the South. I think there are quite a bit of people who are moving here for the wrong reasons, but that's just my opinion. Do I like this area? Yes! Do I think the world of it over other cities? Absolutely not. Just being honest

I would agree with you. Had the opportunity to move there two years ago. We turned it down after our visit. You can get ALOT of house for your money and everything looked newish. Very hot,,concrete, LOTS AND LOTS of strip malls/cookie cutter sub divisions and traffic everywhere, scarey BROWN lakes and surprising high crime rate for that size city. That being said, the older areas of heavily wooded, grand old homes ( one area especially but the name escapes me,but it had a park way and was close to the city) was just lovely. There is a lot of booming business coming to the area which it good for alot of people, and many love the lotta house for the buck business. So, back to different strokes, but we were extremely bummed at the place after all the hype.

Yes Charlotte is way too overhyped. One thing i've noticed while living here is that newcomers move either to south mecklenburg county or north mecklenburg county, which makes driving a bit of a hassle since many of the roads here are only one-laned(some without turning lanes). Road construction lasts forever and there is always something new that needs to be done after the project is complete. The growth is just out of control, land is becoming very valuable. The tax money that could have gone to help fix the roads and build schools is usually instead used to build things most people didn't want, like Bobcats Arena. And Charlotte really doesn't have any interesting landmarks, nothing but just a bunch of shopping centers. I lived here for 14 years and I dread what this city will look like in the next 14 years.

You both make valid points. Not to say this is an absolutely horrible, disgusting, crime-ridden area, but it's just not the utopia that I'm afraid so many people have turned it into. There are very nice areas that I enjoy, but I guess I just don't see all the hype behind the area. Maybe I should move away and come back in about 10 or 20 years in order to see what others currently see. Different strokes for different folks

Yeah, right. I live in lower Manhattan. We have 3000 restaurants. Not 30, 3000. That's just a small part of the island. Where do you get that in the U.S.? Nowhere. NY is simply unparalleled for food and culture. And I can only guess that you haven't been here or visited a few tourist spots and Times Square and thought you had seen it all. You could take any ten US cities of mid size and put them together and they wouldn't have what NY has. That's the truth.

Los Angeles is overpriced and way overrated, I'm glad people are actually starting to realize that. I only the support the damn place because I actually live in the area.
New York too, but at least New York has culture and character.

I've lived in the metro Atlanta area since I was almost 10. At first I thought Atlanta was specially. After a decade of living here, it has dissapointed me(and angered me) in many ways. To me, Atlanta is overrated because of my own experiences. I came expecting Atlanta to live up to whatever hype was being bestowed upon it and it was dissapointed.
