If you visit other major cities you would see that while not squeaky clean Atlanta could be alot worse. It's definitely no dirtier (actually cleaner for the most part) than New York or Chicago.

I've lived in Atlanta and Chicago. Atlanta's pretty dirty... The city itself is also 1/5 the population of Chicago.

Default Chicago is overrated, from a guy who grew up there

Overrated city: Chicago Illinois. Why? For a city that is supposedly so affluent and such a "great place to live", why is their murder rate consistently near the top in the country every year?

It's easier to see how smaller metro areas would have more trouble with crime, when they don't have the budgets of a New York or Chicago. But Chicago fails where New york succeeds. Oh yehhhh...a deep seated culture of corrupt cops and corrupt city officals. Almost forgot.

Other negative factors that get Chicago my vote....#1 or #2 worst traffic snarls, absolute worst parking situation in U.S., in Top Ten worst school systems, many blighted and poor areas away from downtown, poor mail delivery, #3 worst roads (construction) ...and the lists go on. These were all found searching Google News.

Underrated city? Tampa Bay.

Chicago's murder rate is not at the top, not even near the top. Get your facts right please.

I like Chicago.

And my vote for most overrated: I've NEVER seen what the big deal about Minneapolis is. It's nice enough, but maybe I'm missing something.

Not really. I've been on the ground in the Raleigh-Durham area and he pretty much nails it.

It's worse now than what you see on the satellite photos, which are ~2 years old.

And yes, "The Research Triangle" is overrated, overhyped and overpriced. Leave it to 150,000 people from the Northeast or California to price normal people out of a market...and on the Raleigh forum here it sounds like they want 150,000 more!

Chicago has reduced it homicide rate by 55.6% since the 1990's. This is higher than almost any city except New York.

Baltimore
Detroit
St. Louis
Washington DC
Kansas City
Philadelphia
Cincinnati
Cleveland
Oakland
Atlanta
Milwaukee
Memphis
Buffalo
Pittsburgh
Nashville
Dallas
Houson

...all have murder rates higher than Chicago. We have a problem with murder, and a high rate - but it's nowhere near the top. Anyway....just pointing that out, people seem to get confused.
