it is, it just doesn't come off as special in its infrastructure and neighborhoods. columbus has atlanta syndrome. a hip city in a not so hip town.

Portland is definitely overhyped, well on its way to being overpriced, some areas are already there. As far as overated, Well if you have lots of bucks and are someone that doesn't have to struggle to find work, then perhaps this would be your your cup of tea. Portland is sadly lacking on employment and seems quite comfortable with that. A good place for those with little ambition and lots of interest in alternative living and the environment.

Besides, if I want to play cards, I'll do it with people I know in a atmosphere I control. One of my reasons for picking Vegas, not to mention the Indian casinos as being overhyped, though that doesn't mean I still don't mind visiting Vegas every five years perhaps.

"Chicago has reduced it homicide rate by 55.6% since the 1990's."
Today in the September 6th 2008 edition of the Trib...."this year Chicago has one of the worst murder rates in the country." The article goes on to say that Chicago officials tend to offer "incomplete" (not up to standards) information about their murder/rape rates, and sometimes the city is not listed at all because of this. So whoever it was that told me to get my facts straight, there you have it, straight from a local paper. I guess the city's politicians are doing their best to smokescreen the problem? All those cities you listed also have lower overall crime rates than Chicago, except Detroit. Chicago has one of the worst overall crime rates in America. Just so it's clear, I grew up on the west side of Chicago (moved to Milwaukee when I was like 16) so I know it has some beautiful safe neighborhoods.

I wouldn't consider Providence overrated because I never hear anything about it, except on Family Guy and the beginning of "Dumb and Dumber".

Beautiful parks, thriving economy, quite a few Fortune 500 companies, inexpensive homes, etc etc. Heck I wouldn't mind living there at all .

You live in the Phoenix area, so anything seems good compared to it!
