Every city in America with a casino is vastly overrated. Casinos act like bug zappers for the "dead enders" of our society.

"most overrated, overhyped, or overpriced"

These are two separate categories to me.
Overrated/overhyped?- Any city in the "new south" or texas (atlanta, dallas, houston, san ant., charlotte); all of arizona and las vegas.
Overpriced? Probably san diego b/c there is not enough industry/good jobs to support the high cost of living. SF and NYC have an extremely limited amount of space, no room for significant increases in the housing supply, great high paying jobs, and a ton of cultural activities so I do not consider them "overpriced", they are just damm expensive.

Couldn't agree more, though I might toss out Dallas as when I was there it was extremely nice. I just don't understand how those places are so popular though, most are unbearable in the summer.

You just go north to the more midwest places like Louisville, St. Louis, KC, Nashville and you have nicer summers, yes you have some winters, but honestly they aren't very bad. Last year we had about 2 months of cold here in St. Louis. I was outside in a T-shirt and shorts in December though, and yes I do understand they don't really compare in size.

Good way to describe it. I hate casinos- "migraine city" full of wild-eyed folks who seems as brainwashed as those that sit in front of a TV or video game console all day, as well as too many morons and too many drifters, people who would be better off funding an IRA Roth than blowing money that really isn't disposable income. If I'm going to explore Vegas, I do anything but spend time in the casinos- if I gamble, it is to put a little bit of cash down on a game and then I can venture of and do something more worthwhile. Besides, if I want to play cards, I'll do it with people I know in a atmosphere I control. One of my reasons for picking Vegas, not to mention the Indian casinos as being overhyped, though that doesn't mean I still don't mind visiting Vegas every five years perhaps.

Las Vegas and Phoenix: extremely overhyped. Actually, ludicrously overhyped.

whatever. Austin is a great city with alot going on and heavily urbanizing and densifying it's urban core. It has many festivals and going on and the city has the best scenery in the state. It's my second favorite city in Texas behind Houston. That said, it is getting more and more expensive to live out there.

Overpriced-California Coastal Cities, Southern FL, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Seattle, NYC,DC and Boston

Overhyped-ATL,Austin,Raleigh-Durham,Nashville

Overrated-Portland,Ore(it ranked as the top big city in the latest edition of Best Places Rated). It is a lovely city with a history of moderately high unemployment.

But it's a parasite to San Antonio; it's sucking out San Antonio's vitality and Austin might overshadow SA in the same way NYC sucked Philadelphia dry.

Austin's freeway and TV allotments (UHF band) alone make it seem that it is an overgrown small town. San Antonio's freeways are better developed (loop-radial) and it's TV allotments are in the VHF band for the big 3 and PBS. Who hyped up Austin anyway? Californians (SoCal)?

That's not Austin's fault. Blame San Antonio and their marketing team. Austin is just a healthy growing city that has a bright future. It's not being a parasite to any city.
