Question America's most overrated, overhyped, or overpriced cities to live

Which U.S. cities are the most overrated, overhyped, or overpriced places to live?

New York city, due to its very high cost of real estate and rentals.

Atlanta, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, and New York City are dumps. The city of Detroit is definitely depressing, but it's not because it has a ghetto (Chicago, Cleveland, Milwaukee, St Louis, etc have those too), but because downtown is dead with nothing to do ... and the remaining restaurants are overrated. Baltimore sucks; I have not done any in-depth investigation into Philadelphia.

Well I wouldn't argue that with Miami but the rest are thriving cities. I mean NYC is one of the cleanest cities in the US same with Atlanta. Las Vegas and L.A. have certain areas to stray from but both cities as a whole aren't bad.

I absolutely agree. Miami is basically a dump with a couple of nice condos and neighborhoods. Miami Beach is nice, but Miami Beach is not Miami. New York is the epitome of the American city, and has an above average amount of safe neighborhoods for a big city. Not a dump, one of the worlds most respectable cities. Atlanta has insane crime, but it's still a generally clean place in its downtown area. L.A, cant speak for it. Same for Vegas.

Miami is truly the most overrated, over hyped, and overpriced city in the U.S.

Parts of New York are worth every penny. Several things in Manhattan are overpriced, though.

I just can't see Atlanta as an overhyped city, more underhyped. It's definetly not overpriced by an stretch of the imagination. Yes it has crime but not anymore than any other large city of its' size. I personally like Atlanta; it still retains the Southern charm combined with modern amenities. Beautiful parks, thriving economy, quite a few Fortune 500 companies, inexpensive homes, etc etc. Heck I wouldn't mind living there at all.
