I was going to post the link to that thread as well but I do see the difference.

Montreal is indeed San Jose north with less than impressive downtown than San Jose's.

No. Montreal and San Jose are polar opposites. They have almost nothing in common at all.

And Toronto and Buffalo aren't even remotely similar. Whoever says they are hasn't spent much time in both cities and is lying.

The only thing they have in common is geographic proximity.

I agree with you on most of these, but I have to strongly disagree with the Anchorage Whitehorse comparison. Anchorage is a major city, with about 10-15 times the population of Whitehorse. By comparison Whitehorse is a large village, or a tiny city. The only thing similar about these cities is their latitude. I think Whitehorse is much more comparable to Fairbanks, both in its frontier feel, and size. Anchorage is more comparable, in my opinion to Yellowknife, the capital of the Northwest Territories, which looks more like a city than a town, and is much more modern than Whitehorse, (despite it's apparently smaller size ).

SingleD, nope, Montreal and San Jose are very similar interms of population before the megamerge, downtown, and two ethnic groups dominating the pop. of city. They also are very passionate about their teams.

The main difference between Montreal and San Jose is that Montreal has a seedier downtown with strip clubs, pawn shops, homeless people and criminals lining up St. Catherine st. From Mon. to Thurs. Dt. Montreal is a ghosttown with only drunk college kids and criminals hanging out by McDonald rest. and along St. Catherine st..

I agree with some, not all. I've always felt like Philly and Montreal were similar, Boston not so much. If Halifax was 10 times bigger it might feel like Boston.

Buffalo/Niagara? I'd say Buffalo/Hamilton in that both cities' strengths are their good-looking residential neighborhoods (Delaware Park, Elmwood Village vs St Clair Village etc).

Minny/Winnipeg is wrong, the Twin Cities are way too big. Omaha/Winnipeg could work. (Akron/Winnipeg? I haven't been to Winnipeg for a long time to be honest)

And I second the other poster's comment about Anchorage/Whitehorse. Anchorage has no Canadian equivalent but if it did, it might be a blend of St John's, Moncton and Halifax. Fairbanks/Whitehorse works but who cares at that point :-)

I can see the connection, but I think that's a little weird. I'd still say Niagara Falls, ON is more similar to Niagara Falls, New York.
