I'm from NC. It happens more often than one might think. Firstly, the metro straddles the border. Secondly, there is this Charlotte/Charleston thing some people can't seem to work out.

Good article about it:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte is in North Carolina. Always has been.
And yet some journalists, copywriters and TV producers, bless their hearts, keep putting us in South Carolina.

Hey, it's not our fault that we keep getting them mixed up. These cities need better PR teams.

Honestly, until I started researching places to move, I didn't realize Houston, TX was as big as it is.

Also out of ignorance, I assumed it was basically a black and white city with little to no diversity other than Mexicans.

Well, boy was I wrong.

What is it, 3.5 percent closer to the east coast? Sorry not everyone stares at maps all day. Sheesh.

Springfield, Ma is more tied to CT than MA, some even say it should be in the same MSA as Hartford.

Not a city, but I once worked with a guy from West Virginia who insisted that there were quite a large number of people that thought that "West Virginia" was western Virginia and didn't realize that it was a separate state. Hard to believe, except that so many people are just terrible with geography.

Years ago I was asked where I was born. When I replied "Oregon", I was then asked "What state is that in?".
