Not to throw more fuel on the fire, but I once heard stated that there are more songs about GEORGIA or with GEORGIA in the title than any other state. In fact, Georgia may be the ONLY state name that was in the title of two separate No. 1 Billboard Hits in the same year -- 1973. Can you name them? (Answer below)
Of course, the main reason Georgia is so prolific in song is because the word GEORGIA is very poetic and just sounds good musically, unlike say NEBRASKA or MASSACHUSETTS or CONNECTICUT. But I think crdit also must be given to Georgia's rich musical heritage and the fact so many groundbreaking artists and genres have their roots in the state. But that"s another topic for another day.
