I think that Houston and Atlanta are different! Houston seems to be a melting point of cultures due to its proximity to Mexico, its southern location, its proximity to the West, and its influx of Asian and African immigrants. On the other hand, Atlanta is very southern and is starting to become a haven for New Yorkers.

Houston is not a melting pot. It's diverse, but it definitely is no melting pot.

There really is only two melting pots and it's NY and LA. You can make a case for Miami but Houston isn't that far behind Miami.

NYC is the true melting pot.

and yet, in most circles, houston is still widely regarded as the better food city. cities like dallas and atlanta favor trendiness over quality

one of its major advantages is being located at the crossroads of many different cultures (seafood, cajun, southern, texan, mexican, etc.). and i highly highly doubt that any city in the south has the extensive variety of international cuisine houston has

Because the diversity in Houston isn't melted together. IMO there are very few melting pots in the U.S. and even they are starting to lose their cohesiveness.

I would argue NYC and NOLA. LA and Miami up for debate, but that's just my opinion.

Ok what is your definition of a melting pot because NOLA is not nearly as diverse as Houston, LA, or Miami and Houston is pretty integrated nor is NOLA attracting immigrants from around the world at a fast rate like these three cities. I'm confused by this.

My idea of a melting pot = ethnicities blended completely or substantially into one culture.

Not several different cultures and ethnicities all squeezed together. That's just diversity.

It's like this. If you fill a pot with 10 different things, you get a pot full of 10 different things. If you add some heat, everything in the pot starts to become one.
