a lot of those cities have already hit their max.

Not Galveston.

If gambling is legalized in Texas, watch out. Galveston is about to GROW UP. There are tons of investors already lined up if the bill passes. Galveston already has a big cruise industry, and there are attractions on the island.

I hope Texas doesn't. It'll cripple the economies of some Louisiana cities.

I hope Texas does. It'll boost the economies of our cities. You're right though, Louisiana cities will be in for a world of hurt if gambling becomes legal in Texas. Especially ones like Lake Charles, where when you go to any casino though, like 90% of the license plates are Texas and they came from the Houston area or Beaumont.

Thank You Texas

Win for Texas

The Houston area especially will benefit from legalized gambling.

Shreveport too, many casinos there cater to many east Texans.

It's only a matter of time when Texas legalizes gambling.

Yes...so if they have already hit their max, and are falling or have fallen...so wouldn't that qualify as "farthest from its potential"?

We have already seen the potential from these cities...the question becomes can they regain that potential or even reach new heights?

Time will tell...some are pretty far down. But no one knows exactly what the coming decades will bring.

It depends on how far was the fall.

In that case you can add Chicago to the list then.
Detroit lost over a million since its peak
Chicago lost almost a million
St Louis lost more than half of its population
Cleveland too lost over half of its population dropping by 500k

But basically all have grown or at least stabilized in metro size. purely comparing a city population as the proxy is probably not really telling the whole story.

Chicago for one is growing in the core; and the population loss is more a factor of houshold size than flight from the region
