I have lived in the metro region of all these cities. I totally agree with killakoolaide.

I think Boston is whiter now than when I lived there years ago.

NYC is becoming like a whole nother planet. Why do I think of Tokyo at times when in Manhattan?

Philly (especially) and Baltimore (to a lesser degree) are the meat and potatoes cities.

DC is a chameleon - different by day than nights and weekends.

The common thread amongst them all is the fierce pride and loyalty to their sports teams. Something that get's lost in the translation in some other "lesser" cities. Also, with the exception of DC, the association with a notable food item - chowder, cheese steak, crabs, pizza/pastrami sandwiches/cheesecake/etc/...

A family friend once described Baltimore as "Philadelphia through a funhouse mirror." Seems about right to me.

If you're going to count cheesecake, then DC gets to claim half smokes.
