Philly in general is more densly developed which I believe most understand I am not sure what the point is to your post

If you like a densly developed vibrant city Philly is the better choice; if you prefer to be very close to the core but with a suburban feel Charlotte would offer more. If you just want the burbs both have it, is that your point?
What you consider pretty down here is similar to the inner city. What we consider pretty you have probably never even seen. What you consider rural is within city limits on the west north east an southside of the city.

Not sure I agree with any except there is not large lot singles within the city itslef. Very pretty areas can be found all over including the city and by traveling only 10 or 15 miles from Center City there are many areas that i would think most would consider pretty (or maybe as you said I have never experinced pretty areas) BTW some of the below images are actually in the city

^Thats a main throughfair in Charlotte 5 minutes from downtown, and is considered by some as a ruff part of town. See the trees and big yards?
Will you see that in inner city Philly? Thats what inner city Charlotte looks like.

Charlotte, NC - Google Maps

Just look at the arial of Charlotte. See all that green, thats the city. Anything inside the loop is considered the city.

Philadelphia - Google Maps

Phillys burbs resemble inner city Charlotte. With the exception that they are not 5 minutes away from a downtown and lack the amminities that Charlotte neighborhoods do.

What????? philadelphia metro is one of the best in the nation, very safe and established, much more built up than charlotte, but i dont know what you were referring to there.

Durf, your opinions arent helping the situation here.
And i would like to mention to everyone that these people are not looking to buy in philadelphia they are looking to buy in the philly burbs. Knowing that, philly burbs are an excellent place to raise a family. Yes it is much more dense and expensive that charlotte, but the schools around philly are beyond excellent, and there is a lot of great towns that offer a virbant culture, and history to them.
