Yeah, and yet Philadelphia and Brooklyn both fare about the same as far as reputation. All 3 places are known as ghetto cesspools by many if not most people.

The point is that everytime people here get offended by SF beating them in threads, they turn their little rage against Oakland cause some of us live in Oakland.

But that's silly cause we dont get offended as easily as you obviously do.

In fact, Blacks in the Bay Area do quite well compared to their counterparts elsewhere:

Median Annual Earnings, Full Time Employed Black Males, 2010
San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland $52,323
Washington-Baltimore-Northern Virginia $48,327
New York-Newark-Bridgeport $41,985
Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Gainesville $39,028

Median Annual Earnings, Full Time Employed Black Females, 2010
Washington-Baltimore-Northern Virginia $46,388
San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland $45,661
New York-Newark-Bridgeport $40,093
Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Gainesville $35,278

And now we know from the 2010 Census that Blacks in the Bay Area are upwardly mobile as well, since they are moving to the burbs in droves.

COL factored in adjusted earnings are better when compared to SF in DC and ATL and lessor in BK

On upwardly mobile for SF, movement to the burbs is no real barometer

Incorrect. Brooklyn and New York are not cheaper than the Bay Area.

I suggest rereading Kidphilly's post.

Philly and BK are cesspools? What facts would you like for me to show that Oakland is MORE of a cesspool than Philly or BK? Name the criteria.

As I said the first time....virtually no black people. The fact that you'd even have to throw in the "black alone + mixed" to boost the numbers proves my point.

My mistake. Sorry kidphilly.

However, in keeping with my original response to Oy Crumbler, adding Stockton and Sacramento really demonstrates that middle class Blacks are taking advantage of lower cost housing in the Valley, yet continuing to work in the Bay Area.

Median Annual Earnings, Full Time Employed Black Males, 2010
Stockton $52,351
San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland $52,323
Washington-Baltimore-Northern Virginia $48,327
Sacramento-Arden Arcade-Yuba City $48,315
New York-Newark-Bridgeport $41,985
Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Gainesville $39,028

Median Annual Earnings, Full Time Employed Black Females, 2010
Washington-Baltimore-Northern Virginia $46,388
San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland $45,661
Stockton $41,403
New York-Newark-Bridgeport $40,093
Sacramento-Arden Arcade-Yuba City $37,403
Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Gainesville $35,278

As far as cost of living, Stockton is dirt cheap compared to SF, NY, DC and probably Atlanta too.

So I dont blame folks for moving out there.

^ Honestly, 18montclair. This sseems like the trend all over America. People are moving to where it's cheap. Sadly they seem to be throwing away culture and amentities for a low COL.

Yes, it is sad.

Oakland lost a third of its Black population during the 2000s(which to me is gut wrenching to be honest cause I consider Blacks an integral part of the Oakland I grew up in and the Oakland I love) and most of them moved to suburbia---but they are just doing precisely what middle class whites did 50 years ago.

Interestingly, every racial group in Oakland grew except Blacks which saw their numbers plummet drastically which pulled the entire city's growth rate into negative territory.

Oakland 2000-2010
Entire City: -1.9%
Some other Race +58.3%
Native Hawaiian/Pac. Islander +39.0%
Two or More Races +14.0%
Hispanic +11.4%
Non Hispanic White +11.0%
Asian +10.2%
American Indian +2.1%
Black -36.8% Staggering.

Who doesnt want to provide a bigger, nicer house for their family? I can understand that.

Great for suburbia, but it sucks for those of us in the cities that we are losing that group in droves.

If San Francisco is such an elite city, and New York on the whole is full of low-class trash, then why is San Francisco not an Alpha++ Global City? And more importantly, why is it ranked beneath Chicago? If you want to live out your high-class lifestyle, you'd be better off living in Chicago over San Francisco. Just sayin.
