I'm picking Vancouver in a heartbeat. It's relatively close to Seattle, so if I want to see a Mariners game, then it's not that far. Mountains nearby, ocean nearby, alot of things to do. Personally, for my preference, I would pick Vancouver.

Vancouver has beaches too. Hell, there are beaches right downtown. The water just isnt quite as warm.

Cold water, I could deal with. In general, the climate would be more to my liking. Summers are not as hot as Jacksonville would be.

Jacksonville's are just better. We can't win 'em all.

Well, Jacksonville has real beach towns and a better beach culture. The sand is nicer too. Also, some people like lots of palm trees.

I wonder, were you just hoping to lambast Jacksonville?

Vancouver is awesome, but this comparison is just bizzarre. Add to that the pre-requisite that Vancouver already wins with the fluff marketing pics of Vancouver, but not a single picture of Jacksonville. If this was Vancouver vs. Miami then you would actually have something here (actually they do have a few things in common, like a downtown full of residential glass condo towers).

Anyway, Vancouver kicks the crap out of Jacksonville in just about every single urban category, but for a day at the beach, lets get real here, Jacksonville owns that one. Vancouver is a nice city by the water, and a warm day in August there is ideal, but it certainly doesn't contend in the beach category with Florida by any stretch of the imagination.

Amelia Island is in the vicinity of Jacksonville. Apparently it's nice enough for Ritz-Carlton to develop a resort there.

I'll take that over English Bay or Wreck Beach, say from September-June.
