While it is true that New York City has a large concentration of Asians, simply due to the fact that it is America's largest city and has the largest population, however, even in NYC, the percentages do not come close to California's largest cities.
California is just thoroughly influenced by various Asian cultures and has been for a long time. Chinese were here in huge numbers, rivalling the White population during the Gold Rush. If there were no discriminatory laws, California would have an even larger Asian population. California's Asian population is widely spread and diverse, from San Francisco to Sacramento to Los Angeles to San Diego to even small cities such as Modesto and Fresno, there are significant Asian populations.
I don't think New York State can even compare. This thread is typical of the oversized NY ego. The assertion is quite pathetic really.

whoa, although cali has the numbers, i find it odd that i've never felt overwhelmed by asian culture during my stay in socal. i see more in movies than i see driving down the PCH.

You found it odd as a TOURIST that you weren't overwhelmed by Asian culture that is more present in the ethnic suburban communities that aren't exactly tourist destinations? SHOCKING!

Not surprising considering how much less people there are there. Also CA has a more established Asian population and less FOB types probably than Ontario.

You were a tourist, not a Californian. If you lived here, and grew up here, you would know. Asian influence spans this state to a very significant extent. So does Hispanic influence and of course, White influence. It's a big crossroads of cultures here.
It's funny how every time someone pushes this thread back up, California gets more votes... NY is still hangin' at 11. I think the jury's spoken on this one!
