I'd also add Washington DC, which actually has a pretty healthy night life. Between the U street corridor, Georgetown, and Adams-Morgan, there are more live music venues, bars, dance clubs, and cool restaurants than the city is usually given credit for. You usually dont think of DC as a party town, given all the serious government and diplomatic stuff that happens there. But from what I've seen, there are enough youg people, college students and stressed out politicos to make night life a lot livelier that you might suppose.

agreed, Washington's nightlife is definitely underrated.
Charlotte NC is wayyyyyyyyyy underated!!! Charlotte has sooooo much to offer. We just decided to take a roadtrip there for the weekend and fell in love with the city. Charlotte is most def a city to watch out for in the next 5-10yrs. There are alot of things to do there for any age.
Why is this "night life" thing so important to cities? I could never understand to be honest.
What's the percentage of people, even for 18-35, frequent night clubs, bars and lounges on a weekly basis or more? I don't think it is a crucial factor in deciding whether a city is interesting or livable, and I don't think it is considered "important" for more than 10% of any city's residents.
b/c you are a hick family values social conservative conformist cretin. that is why. a lot of people on city data are hicks, but a lot you know...like the city life, hence city data. it doesn't matter if it is Chicago or SF or New Orleans or Seattle...that is what people want.
I know all of my friends go to that on a weekly basis or more... and it isn't a 35 thing either, people who are in their 60s here hit up swanky lounges and neighborhood pubs, it is a different culture and lifestyle from hickville suburbia USA. Don't get mad, it is you who prompted the question, there is your answer, go eat some chili's and turn on the television.

One thing I can tell you about this ¨nightlife¨ thing, is that in Miami (where I live), it is rare to find any intellectualism in the nightlife, it is mostly hedonism. It´s all about seeing and being seen, drinking expensive cocktails, dressing sexy, beautiful people, act like you have money, maybe dance a little...guys want to get laid, and women want attention *and* sometimes want to get laid, blah blah blah, I have seen it a million times....
If the music is loud, there is no real conversation, only texting, so there is nothing to talk about except superficiality.
What´s funny is that most of the clubbys will tell you they just want to unwind. The problem is most of these people can barely carry on an informed intellectual-based conversation even in the daytime.
Ahhh yes... Miami nightlife. Excuse me while I go bang a hot chick now
