Default Best Summer Cities?

After a long hard winter in many places summer seems to here!

So I was thinking, what is the best city in America during summer time?
Which city comes alive with concerts and street entertainers and with everyone eating outside meaking the most of it?

I've heard that New York and Chicago, but how? These cities always seem to be buzzing and full of life so what makes them special during summer?

And what other cities or good?

Summers can be hot; but I have always loved how many cities in the NE come alive in spring - you can literally feel the energy the change of season brings. I know Spring and Fall are by far my favorite times in Philly

Summer seems to actually quiet a bit; especially weekends with large numbers fleeing the heat down the shore

NYC has a really ridiculous amount of free (and non-free) stuff to do in the summertime. It's the best time of year by far, IMO.

Lots of things that only happen in the summer, like the PS1 WarmUp parties, big free concerts in the parks, rooftop cinemas, etc..

You need to spend a while figuring out your calendar, because you physically cannot do half the things you'll want to get to in the summer just because of volume of events. exciting.

Believe it or not Seattle is the perfect summer city. Little rain if any at all. Perfect temps, mid 70s to low 80s w/low humidity. Downtown pulsates with Pike Place Market Days. Tons of outdoor cafes. Walk to the waterfront, hop on a ferry. Take the Eliott Bay Water Taxi to Alki Beach. Tons of festivals and concerts including the Bite of Seattle, Seafair Torchlight Parade, Seafair Hydroplane races along with the Blue Angels Air Show. There's the Port Townsend Jazz And Blues Festival, Fourth of July Fireworks, outdoor concerts at the beautiful Chateau St. Michelle Winery. Take a day out and head to beautiful Mt. Rainier or Olympic National Parks. And the list goes on! Don't leave without some local fresh seafood.

Chicago is awesome but the last time I was there(last summer) a friend of mine was saying wait until we go down to the Lake you wont believe it. No offense but when we got down there, I looked at him like he was crazy. If you grew up on the coast the Lake is kids play.

What does that mean -- kid's play? Not big enough? Not busy enough?
