Look at the county stats for each. Way more indicative of how dangerous there burbs are. LA, Miami and Houston seem like they could defnietly be the Top 3.

Doesn't the bay area have more dangerous burbs than LA? Stockton and Richmond are totally ghetto and I think they have a higher crime rate than Compton and the like.

I don't think Stockton is considered to be in the Bay Area, but some other Bay Area communities like Vallejo, Pittsburg, Hayward, East Palo Alto and a few others can be a bit rough or have areas that are.

I think this is one of those cases where Chicago and Detroit are opposites of their stereotypes. Most people live in the suburbs, and most of the suburbs are extremely safe. Compared to the view that when you hear the cities name, many people think "crime".

Of all the murders in the Chicagoland area for 2009:

72% happen in the central city of 2,750,000 people
28% happen in the suburban area of 5,750,000 people
11% happen in the metro area less the city and the near south suburbs of around 5,250,000.

11% for 5,250,000
91% for 3,250,000

Even then, the 72% in the central city are highly segregated in about 25% of the neighborhoods, and are around 66% gang related on top of that.

Are you kidding? What about Chicago? Maybe not the north suburbs but Chicago suburbs, hell yeah.

Ford Heights, Harvey, Riverdale, Maywood.. There are fools from up north who (out of ignorance) are scared of the entire southland from south of Chinatown in the city all the way to the entire suburban area south of the city.

Chicago and LA. Some of Chicago's south and near west suburbs are war zones. Ford Heights, Harvey, Markham, Cicero, Maywood.

LA is even worse. Compton, El Monte, East Los Angeles, Lynwood, Santa Ana (if OC counts).
