That sounds awesome. You totally just sold me on Steamboat. I'm torn between Colorado and New Mexico but for skiing yeah Colorado is pretty much bar none the best. Telluride being the most scenic.

I'd rank them:

1st (and by a long shot): Colorado
2nd: Utah
3rd: Arizona
4th: New Mexico

Really, Arizona and Utah are tied there in the middle. I like the climate in Utah a little more, but Arizona has all the major sports. It's a trade off.

Mountains - Colorado

Scenery - Utah

National Parks - Utah

Urban areas - Colorado

Historical Areas - New Mexico

College Towns - Colorado

Winter Recreation/Skiing - Utah

Culture - New Mexico

Colorado would be my choice of place to live because I like Denver. Utah and Arizona are my favorite places to visit. New Mexico is a state I want to explore more of.

I see it as a matter of personal preference. I personally am not crazy about the culture in New Mexico, but we're all a little different.

Err, no. The culture in New Mexico is very different from that in Mexico - the architecture, food, blend of cultures, etc are very different.

^Alacran, you clearly don't have much experience with these regions. New Mexico has its own cuisine (defined by red/green chile), it's own brand of architecture (pueblo revival, with vigas, beige adobe, etc), and it's own culture. NM has long been considered tri-cultural, and anglos/native americans have a level of influence not found in Mexico.

Pay no attention to Alacran. He just likes to troll on deserts and posts negatively quite often. Don't feed into it, it will just bring down the thread and become like a dog chasing its own tail.
